Late Models in Maine

The snow covered facility in Oxford, Maine was no obstacle for iRacing’s Late Model Series last week as drivers visited the speedway through the comfort of their own homes. Oxford Plains, notorious in iRacing for its almost perfect circle shape was the host for week 5. Technically the oval is of a .375 mile distance featuring four corners with 9^oof banking. Who could manage their tires best and claim victory over the 70 lap features which ran throughout the week.

The answer to this was Kollin Keister who competed in only 3 races, but managing 2 wins and poles, as well as leading 138 of 210 laps. Kollin claimed 166 championship points just barely edging out Ty Majeski. Ty only participated in one race, but he claimed a clean sheet taking home a win, a pole, and leading 70 laps of the 70 he completely. Ty took home 165 points for the series championship this week and was able to escape with his safety rating at a comfortable 4.68.

Kevin Myers led the most laps of any competitors in week 5 with 1212 laps led of his 1329. Kevin did this over 19 starts while claiming 15 victories, and only one race falling outside the top 5. Kevin also claimed 153 points to the championship. Also worthy of a mention is Keith Mac who had the most wins of any competitor with 18 in 28 races. Keith also led 983 laps of 1957 and claimed 142 points for the championship. The driver with the most starts this week was Michael Carpenter who started in 35 races, winning one, and claiming 17 top 5’s, and leading 197 laps.

The overall season standings show the staggering results of Kollin Keister’s dominant display in the series. Kollin leads Ron Hagolin with 968 points to his 856. Niccolo Cedrati, Kevin Myers, and Sam Adams round out the top 5 in points managing 849, 839, and 782 points. Micheal Carpenter continues to have the most starts of any driver in the series with 130 starts to Daniel Jones’ 82. Meanwhile, Kevin Myers follows Kollin Keister’s 44 wins with 38 to his name.

As the series moves on to Charlotte will we see any challengers for Keister’s dominant performance, or will he walk away from the competitors and secure himself the iRacing Late Model Tour championship for 2013. Ducati: moving targets masking gains

Andrea Dovizioso, Ducati, Sepang MotoGP testing, February 2013 Ducati’s progress is being masked by the greater development rate of MotoGP’s front teams according to general manager Bernhard Gobmeier.

Gobmeier, who supplanted Filippo Preziosi at the end of 2012, admitted that Ducati was struggling to match its rivals even though it had made steps forward with its own bike.

“Even with a lot of changes that we have made we still struggle to catch up,” he explained.

“The level of performance, what we see from the competitors, is very high, especially from Jorge [Lorenzo] and Dani [Pedrosa, who both] made some real big advances.

“This is just an intermediate result that we are having, though. So far we are pretty happy with it.”

Gobmeier said much of Ducati’s initial testing work was geared towards identifying the team’s future development path, although it has also made identifiable progress in several areas.

“We made some changes from the first to the second day, [then we did] a few additional things to find out a direction for the future,” he explained.

“This is just to confirm about the direction and future developments which need some more time.

Nicky Hayden and Bernhard Gobmeier “[At the next test] there will be some additional pieces that we want to test on the engine, electronics and chassis side, so there is always a little bit more that we want to try.

“If they are new things we want to see whether the direction is right, and with the existing things we just want to always confirm that the result is the same as last time, because you always have to look from track to track.

“We have tried to play around with the centre of gravity and weight distribution, and the fuel tank has really helped us.

“I try and get the opinion of all the riders, gather all the information of everybody to get a more global picture of what’s going on, and we are pretty happy.”

New Citroën DS3 Racing Limited-Edition Arrives to Celebrate WRC Success [2013 Geneva Auto Show]

Citroën may be struggling in the marketplace, but its World Rally Championship record has been unbeatable—eight titles since 2004. To celebrate, the company is offering another hot-rod variant on its 2013 DS3 compact hatchback to commemorate its remarkable achievements.

A limited-production edition similar in spirit to the Mini JCW GP, the three-door DS3 Racing sports a matte-black body highlighted by a matte-gold roof, rear wing, mirrors, and Citroën chevron badging. The 18-inch black-and-gold aluminum wheels wear 215/40 Bridgestone Potenza performance tires, backed by bigger brakes and tighter suspension tuning.

Like the standard DS3, the Racing is powered by a 1.6-liter turbo four-cylinder. But output goes from the standard engine’s 156 horsepower to a robust 207. The engine is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. Interior enhancements include racing-style bucket seats, and a mostly black décor with matte-gold accents.

This is Citroën’s second DS3 Racing package. The first was offered in the 2011 model year as tribute to works driver Sébastien Loeb. Like the sold-out original, the latest DS3 Racing will be a limited-edition offering. Citroën plans to cap production at 3000 units, 1000 more than last time.

Ram has announced pricing for its new 2014 ProMaster, a line of work vans based on the front-wheel-drive Fiat Ducato. For $27,025, buyers will get a van with a cab and a cutaway chassis; prices for a complete van start at $27,525. So for just $500 more, consider that a bargain. With the choice of a standard gas engine or an optional diesel, three wheelbases, two roof heights, and four cargo-floor lengths, the ProMaster’s configuration flexibility should help it win fans, even if some buyers might be wary of a FWD full-size carryall.

The standard motor is a 280-hp version of Chrysler’s Pentastar 3.6-liter V-6, mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. The step-up motor is a turbocharged 3.0-liter EcoDiesel four-cylinder good for 174 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque; it operates through a six-speed automated manual gearbox.

Both engines are available in the full range of ProMaster vans. Wheelbases include 118, 136, or 159 inches; 90- and 101-inch roofs heights are available; and cargo floor lengths of 105, 123, 146, or 160 inches can be spec’d. All-wheel drive is not available.

The $27,525 mentioned above gets you a ProMaster 3500 with a 136-inch wheelbase, the low roof, and the gas V-6. From there, pricing is as follows:

While Ram has not announced fuel economy or any options information, the ProMaster model brings the total of big vans now available to four: the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, the Nissan NV, and the new Ford Transit. Ram is betting that the ProMaster will distinguish itself from the competition with best-in-class features that include cargo capacity, payload, and a low cost of ownership. That’s all well and good, but what will it look like with a Viking battle airbrushed on the side?

Just announced as expected by Thomsons that the new Dreamliner 787,greatly advertised by the holiday company,as the new plane they would be adding to their fleet in May is now delayed. All the people who thought that by booking a holiday with the company,they could then be the first in this country to fly in the new Dreamliner,will be disappointed. Will they get compensation because they booked their holiday believing that they would be flying in the Dreamliner as Thomsons brouchure promised is debatable.Do you think they should get compensation or be able to cancel their holiday at no charge? .

Mercedes stays on top with Rosberg

Nico Rosberg topped the final morning of pre-season Formula 1 testing as Mercedes continued to set the pace at Barcelona.

After team-mate Lewis Hamilton ended up fastest on day three with a 1m20.558s, Rosberg led the way early on day four.

His best of 1m21.277s remained quickest for some time before the German and Fernando Alonso”s Ferrari started a sequence of short runs on the soft-compound Pirelli rubber.

Just after the session’s halfway mark, Alonso managed a 1m21.024s lap, but almost immediately the Mercedes recorded 1m20.723s.

Alonso moved the mark to 1m20.606s in the final hour, only for Rosberg to make sure of the fastest time with 1m20.130s. He later set a 1m20.180s and has thus produced the two best laps of 2013 Barcelona testing so far.

Alonso eventually managed a 1m20.494s before switching to the super-soft, on which he failed to improve.

Almost a second behind the Ferrari came Jenson Button’s McLaren. The 2009 world champion spent the early part of the session on harder rubber, but had a late run on unmarked Pirellis (suspected to be the soft compound) to end up third.

The midfield battle was close, with a tenth covering the Force India, Sauber and Williams times at one stage.

Sauber”s Nico Hulkenberg ultimately pipped Paul di Resta’s Force India for fourth, with Pastor Maldonado completing the top six.

Reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel concentrated on the harder rubber compounds and was only seventh fastest.

Gearbox problems struck Kimi Raikkonen on his installation lap and his Lotus only made it back out in the closing moments of the session.

McNish gets BBC radio F1 role

Le Mans winner and former Formula 1 driver Allan McNish will be part of BBC Radio 5 Live’s commentary team for the 2013 F1 season.

McNish will work alongside James Allen for the station, which broadcasts the full season live, except when he has clashes with his Audi World Endurance Championship programme.

Ex-Toro Rosso driver Jaime Alguersuari occupied the 5 Live role for much of 2012.

McNish raced in F1 with Toyota in 2002, but is best known for his sportscar career with Porsche, Toyota and Audi.

The BBC had already announced that Suzi Perry would take over from football-bound Jake Humphrey as the main presenter of its television coverage.

Journalist and broadcaster Tom Clarkson is also joining the TV coverage as a pit reporter, alongside Lee McKenzie.

Ben Edwards and David Coulthard continue as the BBC TV commentators, with Eddie Jordan as a pundit. Gary Anderson will be part of both the TV and radio coverage, while Jennie Gow stays on as 5 Live’s pitlane reporter.

The BBC will show half the 2013 F1 season live. Practice sessions for its live races will now be broadcast on BBC2 rather than online and its digital service as before.

Welch Motorsport to run Nye in BTCC

David Nye BTCC British Touring Car Championship team Welch Motorsport will add a Super 2000 Ford Focus to its line-up this year for David Nye.

Nye is a long-time saloon racer who competed for Welch in one-make SEATs in Europe.

The 55-year-old began racing in Ford Fiestas, and has most recently competed in Belgian Touring Cars and the Supercar Challenge.

“Being able to compete on the same grid as the big boys will be fantastic, though I’m sure it will be a steep learning curve,” said Nye, who will contest the Jack Sears Trophy for S2000 cars.

Welch is set to continue fielding Dan Welch in its own NGTC Proton this season.

2013 Motorsport Forums competition update

Hey all, Drewdawg back in the game!

Just wanted to make a personal topic to re-introduce myself since I have pretty much fallen off planet Earth since our final round of the pickems last fall. My name is Andrew, and I currently run the Indycar forum games right here on this forum!

For any folks that are new here, we have a weekly (race weekend technically) pickem game run right here on the forum, very easy to play and a lot of fun. Simply just take a moment pick who you think the top 8 finishers are of each race and points are scored accordingly.

I will be continuing the Indycar Fantasy Competition, that I introduced on this forum last year ... and hopefully those that participated last year enjoyed getting their feet wet, and will look to grab a couple of more members for this season and make it a bit more fun!

So again, just a quick little blurb update from my camp. Hope to see all of you guys coming to join us for the Indycar pickem and Fantasy games for the 2013 season. I personally look forward to bringing each one of you some fun and excitement this year.

Welch Motorsport to run Nye in BTCC

David Nye BTCC British Touring Car Championship team Welch Motorsport will add a Super 2000 Ford Focus to its line-up this year for David Nye.

Nye is a long-time saloon racer who competed for Welch in one-make SEATs in Europe.

The 55-year-old began racing in Ford Fiestas, and has most recently competed in Belgian Touring Cars and the Supercar Challenge.

“Being able to compete on the same grid as the big boys will be fantastic, though I’m sure it will be a steep learning curve,” said Nye, who will contest the Jack Sears Trophy for S2000 cars.

Welch is set to continue fielding Dan Welch in its own NGTC Proton this season.

Chilton: team-mate doubt an advantage

Max Chilton Marussia F1 2013 Formula 1 rookie Max Chilton says the uncertainty surrounding the identity of his Marussia team-mate has been a big advantage as it has increased the amount of track time available to him during pre-season.

The 21-year-old Briton, who is stepping up from GP2 this year, drove the MR02 on the opening day of F1′s final test on Thursday, and went ninth fastest.

With Timo Glock having been released from his contract in January, and Luiz Razia’s future with the team now in doubt, Chilton has now completed seven of the nine days of testing this year; more than any other driver.

He believes that this has been of huge benefit to both himself and the team as he acclimatises to life in grand prix racing.

“It’s perfect for me,” he said. “For the team, if you have the same driver every day, you get constant feedback. It’s going really well.

“I’m happy with my progress and I’ve really started to learn things.

“We had quite a bit of rain on Thursday and even that was a help, because I wouldn’t want to go into a wet race without having driven on the intermediates and the wets.

“Now I’ve done plenty of laps on both those kinds of tyres, so it wasn’t a wasted day. It doesn’t help the team, because we need to do more dry set-up work, but for me it’s not a problem at all.”

Marussia has not revealed whether Razia will drive at the final Barcelona test.
