Momentum builds for British F3

British F3 SilverstoneMomentum is growing for the slimline British Formula 3 International Series, which kicks off with the first of four race weekends at Silverstone on May 25/26.

Top team Carlin, which ran the British F3 title winners every year from 2008 to ’12, is planning to run all four of its FIA F3 European Championship drivers, including Silverstone race winner Harry Tincknell. The team hopes also to fill a fifth seat.

Double R Racing, which took Mike Conway to the 2006 crown, expects to run its three-driver European F3 line-up, while series stalwart Fortec Motorsport is also planning to field at least two cars.

National Class team CF Racing expects to be present with older-spec cars, as fielded in selected British F3 rounds last year.

There also appears to be interest from other teams currently competing in FIA European F3, the Spanish-based European F3 Open, the German F3 Cup and the lower-level UK MSV F3 Cup series.

Peter Briggs of British F3 teams group FOTA said: “There’s an encouraging amount of interest. I’m very optimistic about the response.

“How many cars? We won’t know until we’re there. It could be 15, it could be 20, it could be 25 – you never know.”

A more in-depth analysis of the likely competitors will feature in the April 25 issue of AUTOSPORT magazine.
